Building Independence - Enhancing Wellbeing
Welcome to my website. I’m an independent Occupational Therapist based in Gloucestershire, with over 30 years of experience supporting individuals with learning (intellectual) disabilities across all stages of life. I offer compassionate, professional support that is tailored to the unique needs of every person I work with.
Whether you're a parent, carer, teacher, service provider—or a person with a learning disability who has capacity and wishes to self-refer—I'm here to help identify what matters most.
Together, we’ll focus on building your independence, doing things that are important to you, and enhancing your wellbeing.

Who I Support
I specialise in working with:
Children, adults, and older adults with learning disabilities, across the full spectrum of need — including those with:
-
Mild or moderate learning disabilities
-
Severe or complex learning disabilities
-
Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
-
Developmental delay or global developmental delay (GDD), prior to formal diagnosis (school age)
They may also be autistic or have ADHD, sensory processing differences, or other neurodivergent profiles.
My approach is always person-centred, flexible, and respectful — with support tailored to each individual’s strengths, needs, and preferences.
My support extends to families, caregivers, educators, and support teams — because the best outcomes come from working together.
My Approach
I use evidence-based, person-centred approaches, including:
-
Model of Human Occupation (MOHO):
To understand how a person’s motivation, routines, skills, and environment affect daily life.
Sensory Processing and Integration:
-
To identify sensory preferences, modulation challenges, and difficulties with motor planning and execution, to support comfort, social interaction, and meaningful engagement in daily life.
This allows me to offer holistic, practical support that builds on each person’s strengths while responding to their individual challenges.

Promoting Independence & Quality of Life
My focus is on understanding a person’s abilities and support needs to maximise independence and improve quality of life. I then develop practical routines and strategies to help them navigate daily life with confidence.

Creating Supportive Environments
I assess environments and recommend equipment, adaptations, or changes to promote safety, independence, and wellbeing—creating the least restrictive, most enabling setting possible in homes, schools, healthcare, work, or supported living.

Empowering Families and Supporters
I offer coaching, advice, and training for families, carers, and professionals — helping you feel confident and equipped in your support role. Together, we’ll find strategies that work and fit realistically into daily life.

Advocating for the Individual
Above all, I am committed to advocating for each person I work with — especially those who may not be able to speak up for themselves. I work to ensure their needs are recognised, their rights are upheld, and their voices are heard.

Let’s Work Together
If you’re exploring Occupational Therapy for yourself or someone you support, I’d love to hear from you. Whether you have questions, need guidance, or want to discuss specific needs, I’m here to help you understand how OT can make a meaningful difference.
